Raise the Question

About the Campaign

“Keep your ear open to God’s Call to ministry.” Those words were shared to a pastor who shared about her experience with a retiring pastor when she was in college. While it was a strange and “seemingly random” thought, within six months, two other mentor-types ask her if she had ever thought about ministry. There is power in naming gifts in another person, especially when one sees the external attributes of a call to ministry emerging. At a fundamental level, ministry is deeper discipleship. It is digging further into relationship with Jesus, cultivating a posture to hear God’s voice and learning to recognize God’s voice. For the pastor or spiritual leader, the “Raise the Question” Campaign offers three invitations:

Ask: 1xWeek

• Once each week, ask a question to someone about calling. When clergy ask questions about calling, it creates space for people to notice Holy Nudges.
• "How is God calling you?"

Identify: 1xMonth

• Once each month, share how you see God at work in someone else's life. When clergy notice spiritual and natural gifts, people in the community can begin to identify them in themselves and others.
• "I see God calling you..."

Preach: 1xQuarter

• When clergy preach on their own call, it helps others identify their own call to ministry. Once each quarter, share an example in your sermon about your call.
• "God called me by..."
