Clergy and lay members to the Great Plains Annual Conference will vote on ratification of four amendments to The United Methodist Church constitution during our session on June 6, 2025. One of the most talked-about proposed amendments is called Regionalization and would transform the structure of the worldwide church.

Our communications team talked with six of our delegates — Rev. Adam Hamilton of Resurrection, a United Methodist Church, and the chair of the General Conference delegation; Rev. Amy Lippoldt, a member on the Standing Committee on Central Conference Matters, clergy delegate and lead pastor at Wichita First UMC; Rev. David Livingston, clergy delegate and lead pastor at Old Mission UMC in Fairway, Kansas; Lisa Maupin, lay delegate and Great Plains Conference lay leader; Rev. Dr. Kalaba Chali, clergy delegate and South Central Kansas District superintendent; and Scott Brewer, lay delegate and conference executive director.

Our participants explain what regionalization is, the benefits to United Methodists both inside and outside the United States, nuances of the legislation, how the plan came to be, and their outlook for the future if Regionalization passes with a two-thirds majority after an aggregate vote across all annual conferences around the world.

This video is approximately 44 minutes long and may serve as a good discussion starter for small groups and Sunday school classes.
