Patrick Freeman

Patrick Freeman, 89; retired Great Plains Conference clergy. Born March 18, 1935; died Dec. 15, 2024.

He graduated from Oklahoma City University, received a Master of Divinity from St. Paul Theological School in Kansas City and was licensed to preach in the Oklahoma Indian Missionary conference at the age of 19. He served as the conference youth director and was ordained an elder, serving Native churches throughout Oklahoma including DD Etchieson in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He moved to Kansas in 1967 to serve in the Kansas East Conference of the Methodist Church and served churches in Lebo, Baldwin City and Kansas City, Kan. He charted a new church, All Tribes Fellowship UMC in KCK in 1990 and later served as pastor at Galena. 

He was an honored member of the Muscogee-Creek Nation, who was designated as a Living Legend by the tribe.

He married Vera Gourt on Aug. 17, 1957. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include children Patrick Freeman, Jr. (Cynthia). Eric Freeman (Vicki) and Courtney Freeman Fowler, former Great Plains Conference lay leader; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A wake will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at New Town Methodist Church in Okmulgee, Okla. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at The Dome on Okmulgee.
