This summer intern program is designed to give young adults opportunities to:
Wholistic discipleship includes direct service (charity), education and justice work. Interns do all three with a special emphasis on justice work. Shane Claiborne helps with this image: “We give people fish. We teach them to fish. We tear down the walls that have been built up around the fish pond. And we figure out who polluted it.”

Micah Corps interns will spend 10 weeks living in and learning about the Topeka, Kansas, community. While 10 weeks is still a short amount of time, our hope is that Micah Corps interns get to know the community of Omaha through one-on-ones and visits with nonprofit, community, and civic leaders.
Micah Corps interns will travel to Montgomery, AL for an immersion trip. During the summer, interns will get the chance to travel to Montgomery to learn more about the history of the Civil Rights Movement as well as racial justice in America today. This trip will give the interns an opportunity to connect with other Great Plains leaders who attend the trip, and to see how educational opportunities can nurture justice work.
Micah Corps interns will practice community organizing basics over the summer. During the 10 weeks, interns will learn from community organizing experts both in Topeka and within the Great Plains Annual Conference about some basic organizing skills which they will practice throughout the summer.

Micah Corps interns will connect with a local Topeka-area church for the summer. Justice work is all about relationships! Each intern will be assigned to a local United Methodist church where they will connect with the pastor(s), staff, and laity to learn about the work already happening in the church and within the community. They will also get the chance to assist in worship and teach some classes about justice and other learnings from the summer.
Micah Corps interns will nurture their spiritual walk by practicing spiritual disciplines and linking their faith with action. Being a United Methodist summer internship, Micah Corps carves out time and space for interns to reflect on their faith journey, particularly in connection with social justice and action. The interns will spend time practicing different spiritual disciplines, meeting with different faith leaders, attending the Great Plains Annual Conference, and living their faith in action.
